Frequently Asked Questions
My lumberyard says they will supply my drawings for free if I purchase materials there. Why would I use you?
It’s great they are offering this service. The truth, however, is that in some way or other you are actually still paying for your drawings. By signing up for ‘free’ plans you are agreeing to be locked in to one supplier who is quite realistically making their money back from you in other ways, and the chances are good you are getting your project drawn by someone who has never lifted a hammer!
We are offering you a peace of mind alternative: full control over your project, from design to suppliers to trades. You are getting the benefit of having experts in your corner who have been in the industry for decades, built hundreds of homes, and over many years have curated relationships with not only some of the best suppliers and tradespeople in the industry, but also relationships with permit offices and building officials which can be really helpful. That is what we can pass on to you!
Are you familiar with ICF? Do you do specialty drafting?
Yes we are! We are well versed in alternate framing, ICF construction, steel frame, web joists, etc. From residential to commercial, we’ve done a lot.
Do you do designs out of province?
Yes! We have designed residential and commercial projects in Canada, the United States, and Europe.
Do you do only house designs or can I have you design my deck too?
If it needs drawings, we can handle it!
What is the normal timeline for getting my plans finished?
Normally once we start on your drawings, this process takes at least 2 full weeks, and quite often closer to 3 or 4. A lot of this depends on how well the communication stream is between us, and how many changes are required along the way. We do strive to be as timely as possible, and we realize that a lot of your scheduling is contingent on us finishing by the quoted date.
How much information should I bring to our first meeting?
Honestly, as much as possible! Nothing is too simple and there are no bad ideas. If you have a screenshot of a Pinterest page, or a quick sketch on a napkin, all is good. It is really helpful if you have an idea of what you want when we meet; even a floor plan drawn out on paper or printed from something you saw and liked online makes the process much smoother! The more information you can give us at the beginning the better and more detailed our initial drawings will be, and this makes things so much quicker for everyone.
Can I pay you once my mortgage money has gone through?
Everyone’s situation is different. We’re also aware not everyone is cash rich. At the same time, we are committing valuable resources and staff time to your project almost immediately, so we hope you can understand we expect you to follow through with our payment structure.
What will it cost me to have my plans drawn?
We will provide you with an accurate quote once we have met and discussed your project, but you may find our pricing guide here.
Do you use Autocad? My nephew knows Autocad and he could help us save some cash by pre-doing the floor layout…
While we appreciate the time your nephew spends with you, we do need to actually draw the plans from scratch due to the way our software works. This also helps us ensure we don’t miss anything vital such as a critical foundation load or a roofline that wouldn’t work out during the initial design process!
