The Design Process at Legacy Designworx

1. Initial Consult

For us to be able to start on your drawings, we’ll need some information from you! Anything you want to see in your house, from a simple drawing on a napkin to a picture you saved off of Pinterest is important, and should be communicated during our first exchange. We can meet in person or you can send us your information by email.

2. Deposit/Down Payment

Once we’ve figured out the scope of your project, we will provide you with a written estimate. In order to begin the drafting and design process, we require 50% up front. This may be through Paypal, credit card, cheque, or cash.

3. Preliminary Conceptual Drawings

Once we have a good idea what we think you want to see, we’ll start on the drawings. At this stage we will get the floor plan(s) drawn and approved by you for layout, and then generate elevations for your approval. Everything is done in PDF format so as to be as user-friendly as possible.

4. Customer-Driven Refinements

This is the part where a lot of people hesitate to speak their minds because they think a large change is going to create too much work. Quite the contrary! We want you to tell us exactly what you like and dislike, and what you want to see for changes. It is much simpler for all of us at this point, and we will work until you are satisfied.

5. Approval Process

Once we have reached the point where you believe you are satisfied with the conceptual drawings, we will get your written permission to proceed with the final construction documents. At this stage the design is done, and it is on to structural drafting.

6. Final Progress Changes

We assume at this point that the majority of the plan is finalized and ‘locked in’ as it were, but there is still some time to make minor changes and tweaks, and we are happy to do so. Please note that any major changes at this point constitute a major re-draw, and may be subject to an hourly charge.

7. Final Plans and Engineering

Once the construction documents are complete, we can at your request send them to get an engineer’s stamp (if required).

8. Payment and Delivery

Upon either engineer stamp or set completion, the final payment will be required, at which point we will send you the plans via email as a high-res PDF drawing. We can help you get full-sized construction prints if needed at this time.
